SPIRITUAL FORMATION

Students at ALCS will be nourished in their faith, training their habits and hearts to make a bold confession of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Daily Matins: We start each morning in the Sanctuary with a Morning Prayer service. Students hear selections from the Old and New Testament and participate in singing hymns and prayers straight from Scripture.

Memory and Recitation: Students memorize Scripture weekly, along with the Ten Commandments, the Apostles Creed and the Lord's Prayer and their explanations from Luther's Small Catechism.

Theology: Younger students hear Bible stories during the day. Middle School students participate in Theology class taught by an Advent Pastor.

Life in the Church: Students and families are invited to participate in the life of Advent Lutheran Church through singing once during Advent and once during Lent; worshiping with members during Matins; Christmas caroling to home-bound members and learning about the historic church calendar.
ENRICHMENT

Pointing students to the Good, the True and the Beautiful also includes a rich engagement in non-academic areas.

Music: Students learn the basics of singing and rhythm through singing folk songs and hymns. They also listen to and learn about a classical piece each week. Older students get to learn recorder at the end of the school year.

Art: Students use living books to deepen our understanding of the elements and principles of design, styles, movements, artists and mediums. We then put what we’re learning into practice with hands on projects reflecting our area of study.

Nature Study: Students spend lots of time outdoors observing, identifying and drawing that which has been given to us right here on our beautiful property.

P.E.: Students learn new skills, movements, games, team work and cooperation during P.E.
