Advent Lutheran seeks new Office Manager / Administrative Assistant

Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church is a confessional Lutheran church of the
 Missouri Synod.
We accept Scripture as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We are a sacramental church, believing the promises God attaches to Baptism and Holy Communion.
We worship with reverence, singing praises to God for what He does for us, not what we do for Him

In-person worship temporarily cancelled

Dear Saints of Advent –

I am sending this to inform you of recent events concerning the health situations of our pastors and organist.  Early this week Pastor Mackay informed me that he and Jena began to feel ill and now have confirmed cases of Covid.  In speaking with Pastor Mackay today he indicated that their health is currently improving and they will remain in quarantine with their family at home.  Over the past 24 hours Pastor Grady began to experience symptoms as well.  He is taking precautions to quarantine at home and is working to schedule a covid test.  Additionally our organist Phil Lehman indicated that he may have been exposed to a known positive contact (not related to Pastor Mackay) and has also taken a covid test and is awaiting the results. It will not be possible to have the results of these tests back before this Sunday.
Given these circumstances and in consult with the Pastors, the Elders and with the Chairman and Vice-chairman of our Council, we feel that the best course of action is to temporarily halt in-person worship services at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church for the next 10 days, including:
  • Services this Sunday, January 3 – CANCELED
  • Epiphany service Wednesday, January 6 – CANCELED
  • Services Sunday, January 10  – CANCELED
In other words, all Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in-person worship services and activities will be shut down through and including January 10th, 2020.  Doing so will allow our pastors and organist time to recover, limit any possible transmission of the coronavirus and effectively provide a time of quarantine for our church body.  Rest assured that the Pastors and Organist have attempted to facilitate contact tracing with anyone defined by the State of Indiana and CDC as “close contact”: within 6′ and for at least 15 minutes.
It is the pastors’ intent to provide an online prayer service or devotion for these two Sundays during this shutdown.  Please consult Advent’s website for this information. Also this shutdown does not  apply to our School (PreK & K) at this time.
In closing, we thank you for your understanding and ask that you please keep the pastors and their families and Phil Lehman in your prayers.  We hope that all who are ill will by the grace of God have a speedy recovery.
On behalf of the Board of Elders,
Mr. Steve Vogtman, Head Elder
