Advent's History
- 1992
- October
- First formal organizational meetings. A core group, along with other volunteers
from area LCMS congregations, begins making phone calls to local residents. Pastor Lee Butz agrees to serve as
interim Pastor.
- 1993
- April
- First worship service of "Zionsville Lutheran Church" held at
Somer Conference Center on Easter Sunday with an attendance of 137.
- Sunday School classes started.
- October
- John W. Fiene of Norwalk, Connecticut installed as first resident Pastor.
November
- Charter membership opened up to and including the last Sunday of the 1994 Church Year.
54 become charter members on the first two charter membership Sundays.
- 1994
- April
- Voters establish a "Site and Building Fund".
- May
- Site Committee identifies 22 sites that might be suitable for new church, among them the Bennett Farm,
which eventually was chosen for site of new church.
- July
- First Vacation Bible School held.
- 1995
- January
- Congregation changes name to "Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church"
- "Site and Building Committee" becomes "Building Committee"
- August
- Ground breaking for new church
- 1997
- May
- First services held in new church
- June
- Dedication service for new church
- August
- October
- Congregation sponsors "Oktoberfest" with food and live music. Attendance between 150 - 200.
- December
- 49 new members are welcomed into the congregation at the regular December 7th Sunday Service.
- 1998
- July
- Advent Youth and accompanying adults participate in the first "Musical Reformation Heritage Tour" of Europe
- 1999
- August
- Advent voters approve plans for new west wing addition
- September
- Ground-breaking/dedication ceremony for new west addition to edifice following September 19th services
- 2000
- August
- Dedication service for new west education wing of church - Sunday, 08/27
- September
- Preschool Program initiated with Deb Trewartha as first director.
