Pastor John Fiene is a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS) in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.  He was the first called pastor and mission developer of Advent (originally  named “Zionsville Lutheran Mission”) and currently serves as Advent’s Senior Pastor.  Raised in Minnesota and Colorado, Pastor Fiene attended college at Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota and Arizona State University.  He has done post-graduate work at the University of Utah, Fordham University and Concordia Theological Seminary (Masters of Sacred Theology).  He currently serves as Second Vice President of the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod.  Pastor Fiene is an adjunct professor of Concordia Theological Seminary and has served as an instructor for the Lutheran Church in Russia, Haiti and Kenya.  In 2008 he was granted the Alumnus of the Year Award by CTS.  From 1981 - 1988 he served as the mission developer and first pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Sandy, Utah, and has also served congregations in Minnesota and Connecticut.  Pastor Fiene and his wife, Solveig have four children: Andrina (Campbell), also a graduate of CTS and former Bethesda Lutheran Homes development officer and Washington D.C. liaison for Lutheran Services of America.  She is married to Michael Campbell and resides in Minneapolis; Hans, a 2008 CTS graduate and Pastor of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Denver, Colorado. He is married to Catherine (Huebel);  Jacob, a 2008 graduate of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University and presently working in St. Louis for Lutheran World Relief (LC-MS); and Christian, a student at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

Carol Pata is the Office Manager and has been at Advent since 1998. Moving from Cleveland 13 years ago was a blessing in disguise since she has been acclimated in “Hoosier hospitality.” Married to Len for many years, she is the mother of five and grandmother of five. Len Pata joined the Advent staff in July, 2007. He takes good care of the building — cleaning, painting, repairing, maintaining — doing whatever needs to be done to keep the church and preschool sparkling clean and in good working order. He is a native of Cleveland, married and the father of five and grandfather of five. Gardening and traveling are his favorite past times.

Organist, Phil Lehman

 

After serving other churches in Indianapolis and South Carolina, Phil returned to Advent in 2007. Besides playing for services, he assists Deb with the youth, accompanies the choirs and is the dedicated wedding organist. He applies his computer skills by recording and posting services on the church website. Phil is active in the American Guild of Organists and other organizations, and has earned many credentials in the areas of piano, theory, organ performance, liturgy, worship and choral music.

Deb has been involved in church work since 1988 when she left her position of 7 years as director of the Zionsville High School Choral Department to start a family while accepting the position of Music Director at Messiah Lutheran Church in Indianapolis .  She began her work at Advent in 1997 as the Director of Youth Music.  In 2000, when Advent decided to open a Preschool, Deb was hired into the position of Preschool Director as well.  Her experience in administration and education as well as her love of children and years in the Lutheran Church —Missouri Synod made the job a perfect fit.  Deb holds a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Music Education from Depauw University and a Master’s Degree from Butler University .  She and her husband Kevin have 3 children and reside in Zionsville , IN.

Lois Dooms

Preschool, Pre-K, Pre-K Plus and Explore Teacher

Lois has been teaching at Advent Lutheran since its beginning in 2000.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in Elementary and Special Education.  Her favorite parts of teaching are sharing the Gospel of Jesus with her students and seeing the wonderful ways children grow and learn throughout the school year.  Before teaching at Advent, Lois taught 2nd grade, substitute taught and was a homemaker for her husband Peter and their four children.

Abigail Neff

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Abby is currently pursuing an education degree from IUPUI in Elementary and Special Education.  She began teaching at Advent in the fall of 2007 after aiding in our classrooms the previous year.  As can be observed in her classroom, Abby was born to teach.  Her love of children and learning are always evident.  Abby is engaged to be married at the conclusion of this school year, and she and her new husband Josh along with her golden-doodle Andy plan to reside on Indy’s west side.
